Portland, Ore. – The Rip City Remix invite you to join our inaugural Black History Month Celebration presented by Mabi Tea as the Remix take on Raptors 905 on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. PT. The night will be filled with exciting activations as we celebrate Black history and culture here in Portland. In collaboration with our corporate and community partners, we will be raising money for local nonprofit organizations and will be showcasing local Black performers and artists throughout the night.
During the game, our team will be wearing custom-designed jerseys to celebrate Black History Month. These jerseys were created as a collaboration with a local, youth artist, Manny Dempsey. The designs weave in Manny’s passion for creating art inspired by his heritage and community here in Portland. The Remix will later be auctioning the game-worn jerseys with all proceeds being donated to Black Parent Initiative. Fans can purchase Black History Month themed Remix apparel at the merchandise pop-up shop on the concourse.
Our Black History Month Celebration presented by Mabi Tea will highlight our community partner of the game Black Parent Initiative. Today, BPI is the only culturally-specific, community-based, non-profit organization in Oregon focused solely on supporting Black/African American families with children in the State of Oregon. BPI’s mission has been to educate and mobilize the parents and caregivers of African, African American and African American Multi-cultural children to ensure they achieve success. Fans looking to donate to their cause can purchase raffle tickets at the game for the chance to win a customized record art piece donated by Ty Givens of 2025th Street.
Before the on-court competition begins, the God Sisters will sing Lift Every Voice before both the Canadian anthem, performed by Kyra Smith, and the U.S.A anthem is performed by Tiffany Dempsey. At halftime, fans can catch the SEI Elite Team with a show-stopping dance performance, as well as Karida and Sekou Walker perform as a Tap and African Drumming duo. All throughout the night, fans can hear DJ Ashé spinning tracks during the game.
Tip off against the Raptors 905 will be at 6:00 p.m. PT. The doors will open one hour prior to tip-off and parking is free in the main lot next to Chiles Center.
