Vipers Drop Second Game At Showcase Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 21, 2023) – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (9-7), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, fell 117-103 against the RIP City Remix (8-8) on Thursday afternoon at the Orange County Convention Center during game two of the 2023 NBA G League Winter Showcase. 

RIP City got off to a hot start as the team went on a 16-0 run with less than eight minutes to go in the quarter. What was once a 16-point lead for the Remix turned into a 10-point lead after the Vipers made the score 20-10 with four minutes to go. For the remainder of the quarter the Remix maintained the lead and sent the game into the second quarter with a score of 29-17. 

Throughout the second quarter the Remix continued to dominate which allowed the team to extend its lead. At the half RIP City was up 55-41. 

In the third quarter the Vipers came from behind and shortened the lead to 65-64 with 5:42 remaining. With 3:05 left in the quarter things quickly turned around as the Vipers tied the game 71-71. After that the game was tied four more times and as a result the quarter ended 80-80. 

RGV started off with the lead in the fourth quarter, but RIP City tied up the game once again with a score of 83-83. The Remix then went on a 7-2 run and took a 90-85 lead with 10:18 on the clock. RGV attempted to come back, but in the end RIP City continued with the lead and walked away with a 117-103 victory. 

Houston Rockets assignee Cam Whitmore had 19 points followed by Houston Rockets Two-Way Nate Hinton and Jarrett Culver who both had 16 points each. Houston Rockets Two-Way Jermaine Samuels Jr. finished with 15 points. Darius Days came off the bench and scored 12 points. Following closely behind was Ray Spalding with 11 points.

Terence Davis led RIP City with 25 points. Behind Davis was Ashton Hagans with 18 points. Justin Minaya had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Quinton Rose also had 15 points. Antoine Davis finished with 14 points and Maurice Harkless rounded up the double digits of scoring with 12 points.
