Two-Way Player Capsule: Duop Reath

Duop signed with the Trail Blazers on Oct. 2 after playing in five games for Portland during 2023 NBA Summer League and had his contract converted to a two-way deal on Oct. 23. His experience with the Trail Blazers was his fourth time playing in summer league, all with different teams.
Duop appeared in all four preseason games with Portland leading up to the 2023-24 season, which was his first NBA preseason appearance … Despite being an NBA rookie, Duop is an experienced overseas player, with over four professional years in four different countries, most recently in Lebanon and China in 2023.
Earlier this year, Duop started in 10 games for 2023 LBL champion Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut in April and May, averaging 21.4 points, 9.9 rebounds (3.8 offensive) and 2.5 blocks a game. He shot 51.3% from the field in those 10 games.
Duop scored 32 points on May 22 vs. Dynamo while grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking three shots. He also had a 30 point game on April 22 vs. Dynamo, where he had 12 rebounds, six blocks and two steals. He scored 26 or more points in five of his 10 games with Al Riyadi Beirut and had 12-plus rebounds in five of 10 games as well.
Prior to his time in Lebanon, Duop played in Chinese Basketball Association, where in 39 games with Qingdao he averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest. He also shot 33.2% from three on 5.0 attempts per game. Duop scored 38 points on 11-21 shooting from the field on Dec. 11, 2022 vs. Jiangsu Kendia, and hit three three-pointers and went 13-14 from the free throw line while pulling down 11 boards and recording four blocks and two steals. He also had a 37-point outing on Jan. 15, 2023 vs. Shenzhen, going 13-24 from the field, 3-5 from three and 8-10 at the line. Duop scored 20-plus points in 20 of 39 games with Qingdao, and pulled down16 rebounds on Jan. 7 vs. Guangzhou. He also recorded six steals on Oct. 12 vs. Guangzhou.
Duop spent the 2021-22 season with the Illawarra Hawks of the NBL (New Zealand and Australia). He started all 30 games he played in, averaging 15.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 0.7 steals while shooting 43.8% from three on 3.5 attempts per game. Duop had six 20-plus point games with Illawarra. He scored 28 points on 13-15 shooting from the field on April 9, 2022 vs. Brisbane while pulling down 11 rebounds (five offensive). In his next two highest scoring games (27 on Dec. 11, 2021 and 26 on April 29, 2022 both vs. Sydney), he shot 3-4 and 5-8 from three respectively. Duop went 9-11 from the field on March 17, 2022 vs. South East Melbourne for 22 points and 12 rebounds.
In three years from 2018-21 in the Adriatic League with two different teams (FMP Beograd and Crvena zvezda), Duop averaged 8.6 points on 50.4 FG% with 4.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 19.0 minutes. He also averaged 2.9 three point attempts a game, shooting 35.8%. Duop won the 2021 Adriatic League championship with Crvena zvezda.
Duop played two years (2016-18) of college basketball at LSU after transferring from Lee College, a Houston-area community college. With the Tigers, Duop averaged 12.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 64 games (58 starts). He was named SEC Player of the Week twice (Nov. 7-14, 2016 and Dec. 4-10, 2017).
Duop was born in Waat, Sudan, which is now South Sudan. He and his family relocated to Australia via sponsorship from a cousin, where they fled the Second Sudanese Civil War, a conflict that claimed the lives of many of his uncles.
